This morning, I found myself thinking about Gideon as I reflected on a few personal things. If you ever felt unqualified, overlooked, or too “small” to carry something meaningful, Gideon’s story in Judges 6 is a powerful reminder that weakness is not a disqualifier. God often meets us in the very places we try to hide and turns what we call limitations into a platform for strength.
Gideon saw his clan as the weakest, and he considered himself the least in his family. And honestly, that is often how it works for many of us. We tend to perform, decide, and show up based on what we believe about ourselves.
While reading Judges 6:12 and the verses that follow today, I noticed something that always stops me in my tracks. An angel of the Lord calls Gideon the opposite of what Gideon believes about himself: “a mighty man of valor.”
That feels familiar. Many of us carry God-sized goals, but our limitations can feel loud. They stare at us. They shout at us. They convince us to shrink.
Then the Lord gives Gideon an assignment and says, “Go in this might of yours…” (Judges 6:14).
Today, I am reminded that how we see ourselves doesn't always align with how God sees us. God sees God’s creation, made with intention and purpose. God makes no mistakes. Even with our obvious weaknesses and limitations, God can still use us and work through us.
Our strength comes from the Lord.
God promised Gideon, “I will be with you,” yet Gideon’s focus kept returning to what felt weak instead of the true source of strength.
Let me remind you today that when you feel like you cannot do something, or you cannot become a certain kind of person because of “obvious reasons,” remember that there is a God who gives strength. God expands the ability already placed inside you and can use you in spite of limitations and past failures.
You do not have to overthink every step. With God, all things are possible.
Do not limit yourself to your current situation. You are enough. Let God be your strength.
