Tell God Everything

Tell God Everything

A week ago, as I took one of my books to write my devotion, I saw a verse printed in it:

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)

At that moment, it reminded me of a question I often ponder.

Oftentimes, when we find ourselves in situations that overwhelm us and someone says:

  • “God will do it.”
  • “God will provide.”
  • “Pray about it.”

Do we truly believe it?

We may say amen to these statements, but whether we truly believe is up to us.

Do we even pray about some of these things, the ones we perceive as trivial? Some even proclaim, “You don’t need to pray about everything.”

One day, a friend asked me about something and I answered, “Let me pray to God about it. Let me go and ask God first.”

He looked at me in utter shock and retorted, “Emefa, seriously, must you ask God about this one too?”

I responded, “Yes, I literally pray to God about everything. That is my personal life, and I have made it that way. I TELL HIM EVERYTHING.”

The only difference is perhaps my inability to hear what He says sometimes, and my disobedience in doing what He wants me to do.

Someone may say, “But God has given us the wisdom to make decisions.” Yes, He has. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with informing a Father, a friend, your Maker, what you intend to do.

In our limited human wisdom, we may not know what is important and what is unimportant. Therefore, we need to lean on God for His greater understanding.

Yes, you can tell God everything. He is interested in what concerns you.

I have named these “MY SILLY PRAYERS,” where I tell God things that may seem unimportant and a waste of time. Yet I have watched Him heed these “unserious” prayers.

There was a time I had misplaced a SIM card. I had kept it on my bed among other things, so I believed it might have fallen under my bed. I swept the entire room and tried searching under the bed, but I couldn’t find it. Then, out of frustration, I said, “God, you have to help me find this.” I was not serious about it. I just said it.

The following day, I took my Bible to continue reading a chapter I was on the day before, and behold, the SIM card fell from that very place. Meanwhile, I had not set my eyes on the SIM card in days until the time I needed it. I stood in surprise because I knew I wouldn’t put a SIM card in my Bible.

I could list a lot of such experiences. God is good. I have seen Him do things for me, even the ones I had only wished for but probably didn’t ask Him.

That is how I discovered that the God we serve has a great sense of humour and is also a meticulous One. I have merited favours from people and from places through these unintended prayers.

You don’t need a special time. Sometimes, the words slip out of my mouth without me even realizing it.

Over time, I have taken inspiration from King David. One of his characteristics is that he sought the Lord’s counsel and direction all the time.

When I was studying the book of Samuel, all I could read was: “and David inquired of the Lord.” As recorded, he did this about nine times in 1 and 2 Samuel.

1 Samuel 30:8 (which is actually my favourite) reads:

“And David inquired of the LORD, ‘Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?’ He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.’”

In 1 Samuel 23:10–11, it reads:

[10] David said, “Lord, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me. [11] Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Lord, God of Israel, tell your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will.”

David even asked God to reveal the plans of his enemies to him.

He further went on asking other questions. Whilst reading them, I asked, “Isn’t David disturbing the Lord with small questions?” But then I remembered that God once testified:

“I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” (Acts 13:22)

God knew David from within.

The beauty of all these is that God gave him answers, both negative and positive.

Oh, how sweet it is (and it will be) to know that there is a Supreme Being who knows everything and directs your path. Inquiring of the Lord is part of worshipping Him. It is part of our relationship with Him.

We certainly do pray about the big things: jobs, health, money, etc. However, what about the “medium-sized” things and the “small-sized” things?

Let God be the front, back, and centre of your mind. Run to Him for assistance.

When you are going to work, commit your day to God. If you are embarking on a journey, tell God about it. When people come into your life, tell God and ask Him why they are there. If you are going for a meeting, tell God about it. Commit the people you live with unto God. Commit your bosses and work colleagues unto God.

When someone offends you, tell God about it. When you offend someone, tell God and ask how to go about it.

Tell that Man everything that concerns you, and watch Him.

He speaks, but you may not know because you cannot hear from Him.

I can’t imagine a life without involving God in it. Life is spiritual. For this is what the Bible says in Deuteronomy 28:9

“If you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in His ways, the Lord will establish you as His holy people, as He swore He would do.” (Deuteronomy 28:9)

Remember: you have a FRIEND you can talk to any day. TELL HIM.

And just like people say, “Talk to God because He won’t screenshot it.”

Stay blessed; you are sought out.
